E. Guigal: The La-Las’ New Addition

Guigal has made three single-vineyard Côte-Rôties since 1985, and the wine world has argued about which is greatest ever since. From the 2022 vintage there is a fourth. La Reynarde arrives from a 1.5 hectare parcel above the Côte Brune, and we are pouring it in its first vintage against the three wines it has to live up to. Then we go back: 2021, 2020, 2019. Same three hills, four consecutive years, one afternoon.

Charles Heidsieck Presents: ‘The Soul of Charles’ 175th Jeroboam Launch Event

Thirty-seven vintages. One bottle. Back to 1937.

Charles Heidsieck marks its 175th year with a jeroboam that blends thirty-seven vintages of the house, the oldest laid down in 1937. Ten venues across Australia will open one. Lamont's is the first.

Amanda Aguilera is bringing a remarkable cross-section of Charles Heidsieck, from the house classics through to its most prestigious releases. Brut Réserve and Blanc de Blancs are joined by the 2018 Brut Millésime and 2018 Brut Millésime Rosé, alongside Rosé Réserve. At the top of the line-up sit two vintages of Blanc des Millénaires, 2014 and the extraordinary 100-point 2017, before the centrepiece of the tasting: ‘The Soul of Charles’ 175th Anniversary Jeroboam, a singular cuvée assembled from 37 vintages reaching back to 1937. A tasting that moves from the contemporary expression of Charles Heidsieck through to the very history of the house.

Saturday, September 19th
Hosted by Amanda Aguilera of Charles Heidsieck Australia
Masterclass: 3-5pm | 8 wines & canapés | $195

Castle Rock: 40 Years of Riesling with Rob Diletti

Ask a room of Australian winemakers where the country’s best Riesling comes from and you will start an argument. Ask them where the most underrated comes from and a lot of them will quietly say the Porongurup. Castle Rock has been making it there for forty years, from vines planted in 1986 on granite at altitude, and Rob Diletti has become one of the most quietly admired winemakers in the state. He is coming up to pour thirteen wines and explain what four decades on one hillside teaches you.

Thistledown: Sold-Out & Award-Winning Wines

Two Scottish Masters of Wine looked at old-vine Australian grenache and saw what almost nobody here was seeing: not a blending grape, but one of the great expressive red varieties on earth, growing on some of its oldest vines. Thistledown has spent a decade proving the point, and the wines now disappear on release.

Patrick Gilhooly brings twelve of them. Four grenaches in a row from Blewitt Springs sand and Eden Valley ironstone, including the 97-point Sands of Time off vines planted in 1952. Then the shiraz, back to a 98-point 2022 Where Eagles Dare.

Giant Steps: ‘Circle of Fifths’ New Release Chardonnay & Pinot

The Giant Steps 2025 Single Vineyard Collection has landed and head winemaker, Melanie Chester is hosting two events at Lamont’s to showcase these highly rated new releases.

13 Giant Steps’ Wines Including… the New Release ‘Circle of Fifths’ Chardonnay & Pinot Noir

“Where the Single Vineyard wines are the pure tones of each vineyard, Circle of Fifths is the chord.” Melanie Chester

The name is a nod to music theory’s circle of fifths – a sequence of perfect intervals used to build harmony. It also reflects our roots…Giant Steps was named after John Coltrane’s groundbreaking jazz album, and this release continues that spirit of creative progression. (giantstepswine.com.au)

Louis Roederer’s 250th: The 2018 Cristal Launch

Louis Roederer was founded in 1776. Two hundred and fifty years later it is still family owned, which in Champagne is close to unheard of, and it makes the most recognisable prestige cuvée on earth.

We are marking the anniversary properly. Five vintages of Cristal in one sitting: the brand new 2018, the 100-point 2016, a magnum of 2012, a three-litre methuselah of 2009, and the 2008 that James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck both scored 100. Around them, the vintage brut, the blanc de blancs and three rosés including Cristal Rosé 2014. Fourteen champagnes, many in large format.

The Wisdom Era: Plantagenet’s Wyjup Launch

Every great wine estate has its chapters. Plantagenet's latest opened in 2018, when Tom Wisdom returned to the winery as managing director, drawn back to where his family's story in wine began.

Three years later, in 2021, he and Jo took ownership outright, keeping one of Western Australia's pioneering estates in the hands of the Lionel Samson family, the state's oldest. They set their focus on the historic Wyjup vineyard, first planted in 1971. We call it the Wisdom Era, and the Wyjup Collection is its first full expression.

Greenock Creek: The Roennfeldt Road Verticals Dinner

Greenock Creek Wines has been part of the Barossa Valley fabric since 1984, when Michael Waugh, a stone mason by trade, made his first shiraz in order to save a series of old dryland, low-yielding Barossa vineyards from a vine pull scheme. With the help of neighbours and a hands-on approach, Michael built a reputation for bold, expressive wines – a legacy cemented by the purchase of the Marananga vineyard in 1994, home to the famed Roennfeldt Road vineyard.
Halliday Wine Companion

If I had to select the number one Australian winery, it would be hard not to choose the Greenock Creek Winery…The quality that emerges from this estate is extraordinary. In short, these are thrilling, world-class wines that are about as compelling as wine can be.
