CHAMPAGNE MASTERCLASS WITH TYSON STELZER
Agrapart & Agrapart
One Legacy. Two Paths.
For more than a century there was one Agrapart in Avize. Now there are two.
Ten Champagnes from Pascal Agrapart and the newly established Agrapart Avize, including Vénus and L’Avizoise 2019, tasted side by side.
“One of the finest grower estates in the Côte des Blancs… His non-vintage cuvées are of uncommonly excellent quality.”
James Button, Decanter, on Pascal Agrapart
“The first wine Fabrice made in 400 copies is the best that has ever carried the name Agrapart.”
Richard Juhlin, Champagne Club, on Agrapart Avize

Avize, the Côte des Blancs village where the Agrapart story began in 1894.
One Agrapart Becomes Two
Arthur Agrapart founded the house in Avize in 1894. It passed to his son Auguste, then to Pierre, and from the 1980s to brothers Pascal and Fabrice. For more than a century the name has stood among the great grower houses of the Côte des Blancs.
Today the family estate has divided. Pascal, now working alongside his son Ambroise, continues the celebrated wines, among them Minéral, L’Avizoise and Vénus. Fabrice has founded Agrapart Avize, a new house that takes the family inheritance somewhere quite different.
For the first time, the two paths can be tasted side by side.
Same family. Same village. Same chalk. What changes when two winemakers take the inheritance in different directions?
Pascal Agrapart
The continuation
Working alongside his son Ambroise, Pascal continues the wines that built the Agrapart name. Everything begins in the Grand Cru chalk of Avize, with each cuvée shaped to show its vineyard rather than the cellar. Old barrels add texture without imposing oak, and dosage is kept low so the chalk speaks clearly.

The new chapter
Fabrice Agrapart’s new house asks what an Agrapart Champagne can be. The range is bottled as Brut Nature and draws on ideas rarely associated with the family name: a perpetual reserve, a pure Meunier, amphora, and a Chardonnay made entirely from the taille. First-generation wines with a century of family knowledge behind them.

The Tasting Lineup
-
This is the starting point for both sides of the Agrapart story.
Atoma is one of the first wines from Fabrice Agrapart’s new house. Chardonnay sits at its core, with a portion drawn from a perpetual reserve begun in 2020. A perpetual reserve is a blend that keeps a little wine from previous harvests and is refreshed each year, allowing the house style to build over time.
Terroirs is Pascal Agrapart’s established signature. It brings together Grand Cru Chardonnay from Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry, with reserve wines adding depth and continuity.
Two Blanc de Blancs, two different starting points. One is the beginning of a new house, the other a long-established expression of Pascal Agrapart.

Pascal Agrapart Complantée
Grand Cru NVAgrapart Avize Ameunia
100% Meunier NVAgrapart is a name closely associated with Chardonnay and the Côte des Blancs. This bracket deliberately moves away from that.
Complantée comes from La Fosse in Avize, planted with six Champagne varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Arbane and Petit Meslier. They grow together, are harvested together and are fermented together, so the focus is on the character of the vineyard rather than any one grape variety.
Ameunia does the opposite, focusing entirely on Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port and Festigny in the Vallée de la Marne. It is the first pure Meunier Champagne in Agrapart history.
One wine brings six varieties together. The other focuses on a grape Agrapart has never previously bottled on its own.
The question: What changes when Chardonnay is no longer centre stage?

Pascal Agrapart Minéral 2019
Grand Cru Blanc de BlancsAgrapart Avize Amphora 2021
Brut NatureHere we look at how choices in the cellar can shape Chardonnay grown on Champagne’s chalk.
Minéral comes from chalk-rich vineyards in Avize and Cramant. Pascal matures the wine in used 600-litre barrels. The old wood is not there to make the wine taste obviously oaky. Instead, it helps build texture while allowing the character of the vineyard to remain clear.
Fabrice takes a very different route with Amphora. The Chardonnay is worked in terracotta rather than conventional oak or stainless steel. Terracotta is essentially neutral in flavour, but it changes the way the wine develops and the texture it carries into the glass.
Both begin with Chardonnay and chalk, but the cellar choices are very different.
The question: How much comes from the vineyard, and how much from the cellar?

Pascal Agrapart L’Avizoise 2019
Grand Cru Blanc de BlancsPascal Agrapart Vénus 2019
Grand Cru Blanc de BlancsAgrapart Avize Atypiqua 2020
Avize Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs · Brut NatureThis is the high point of the tasting: three very different Champagnes from Avize.
L’Avizoise comes from vineyards where clay sits over the limestone, giving one of Pascal’s broader and more powerful expressions of the village.
Vénus comes from the tiny La Fosse parcel, planted in 1959 and worked only by horse since 2000. The horse itself was named Vénus, giving the wine its name. It has become one of Pascal Agrapart’s defining Champagnes and a clear example of how much difference there can be between individual sites within the same village.
Atypiqua takes a very different approach. It is also 100% Avize Chardonnay, but is made entirely from the taille, the second pressing of the grapes. The first pressing, known as the cuvée, has traditionally been considered the more prestigious juice in Champagne. Fabrice deliberately works with the taille instead, fermenting it in barrel and giving it extended ageing before release.
Three wines from Avize, made in three very different ways.
The question: How different can three Champagnes from the same village be?
