Singlefile Wines was co-founded in 2007 by geologists Phil and Viv Snowden, along with their daughter Pam and son-in-law Patrick Corbett. They all had successful careers prior to the establishment of Singlefile, but their pathways became inextricably woven together thanks to their shared love of wine. Patrick and Pam lived in Italy as a young couple, which crystallised their appreciation for exceptional wines. Reuniting with Phil and Viv over summer holidays gave the family an opportunity to discover Old World wine regions together, planting the seed for creating their own winery.
When Phil and Viv sold their successful consultancy, Snowden Mining, in 2004 they went in search of their next venture. Together with Patrick and Pam, they dug deep to learn more about the principal wine regions of Australia, with a goal to uncover the best site for producing outstanding cool-climate wines. Their search took them to Denmark in Western Australia, where they discovered their piece of paradise. Drawing on their unrivalled geological experience, Phil and Viv selected an established vineyard they felt promised the ultimate expression of Denmark’s terroir. This property, where the cellar door is now located, became the home of Singlefile and the foundation of its acclaimed Chardonnay wines.
After building the Cellar Door, Patrick and Pam moved their family to the east coast of Australia for a year to build the distribution, working with sommeliers, trade partners and consumers to grow awareness of Singlefile. Phil and Viv worked on refining their viticultural practices and growing the cellar door presence to invite people into their winery home.
Today Patrick plays a vital role in the production of all Singlefile wines. Pam administers the day-to-day business operations. Phil and Viv live on the Denmark property, keeping a keen eye on the vineyards along with the Cellar Door.
Quality always comes first, and this outcome has been achieved by a minimal intervention approach in both the vineyard and the winery. Singlefile wines are made as naturally as possible, allowing the nuances of the environment to shine through in the final product.
Singlefile is proud to be widely recognised as one of the finest wineries in the Great Southern region. What drives the entire Singlefile family is the desire to craft wines at the top of their game, manifested in the Latin motto on Singlefile’s crest, Semper Superne Nitens – “the pursuit of excellence”.

Lemon, lime, feijoa, white flowers and bath salt aromas are all at play. Fine, pithy and focused in flavour, with a pure drive of citrus, just-ripe stone fruit and textured, grippy acidity. Long and with plenty of presence.

Dried flower aromas, dried herbs too, pleasant and typical Australian riesling nose. Palate has good intensity and focus, refinement and length, finishing clean and dry and more-ish. A keeper.

2024 Singlefile Family Reserve Denmark Chardonnay (current release)
96 Points, Ray Jordan
Thoroughly beautiful chardonnay from a Denmark vineyard planted in 1989. It was whole bunch pressed and fermented in a one third new and two thirds one year old French barriques. Partial malolactic fermentation with regular lees stirring over six months. On the nose grapefruit and zest lemon emerge. The palate has a fine minerality and delicate acid to sustain through to a long finish. Really impressive chardonnay.

"The fruit for this luscious estate-vineyard chardonnay came from three picks, end of February to 25 March, each parcel chilled and pressed direct to new and used French barriques for fermentation and 10 months maturation, including some malolactic fermentation, without obscuring the javelin of acidity that holds the citrus/honey/fig trifecta together."

2024 Singlefile Single Vineyard Porongurup Pinot Noir (pre-release)
94 Points, Ray Jordan (review on the previous vintage - 2023)
Comes from the Misery Hill vineyard in the Porongurup. Has a dominant savoury character that pervades through the nose and the palate. It’s medium bodied with excellent depth and persistence. Strikes an excellent oak and fruit balance with the fine chalky tannins doing their thing. Hard to beat for a pinot selling for less than $40.

This is a really impressive pinot from Mount Barker. It has a nice point of difference with the highly aromatic Porongurups pinot. This wine is scented by aromas of cherry and spice, with a trace of raspberry confection. The palate is firmly held with fine tannin and a light touch of oak.

Can’t remember a better example of this wine. It’s a mataro grenache and shiraz blend from the Riversdale Vineyard in Frankland River in this wonderful vintage. A deep mass of dark fruit explodes from the glass. Spicy plum, dark chocolate and dark cherry aromas invade the senses. A rich vein of fruit cascades across the palate. It’s juicy and plush with brightness and energy.

Stunning. This came out on top of 700 wines submitted from around Australia for my annual Top 100 red wines selling for less than $40. From the time I brought the glass to my nose to the final lick of the lips, I knew this wine was something special. Perfumed spicy plummy notes with a little raspberry confectionery nuance. The palate is sublime with a seamless integration of oak and tannin.

2021 Singlefile 'The Philip Adrian' Frankland River Cabernet (pre-release)

A most refined and stylish cabernet from this very good vintage. There is a purity of expression here that partly conceals the deep and intense palate concentration. Leafy aromas with a trace of minerally oyster shell and ironstone. The palate is more in the medium bodied area with fine chalky tannins and fine-grained oak lacing it together into a distinctly linear presentation through to a long finish.
