Prosecco’s “Grand Cru”: Bisol 1542 & Jeio Masterclass

  • Lamont's Wine Store Cottesloe 12 Station Street Cottesloe, WA, 6011 Australia (map)

5 Centuries. 21 Generations. One Family
- in the hills of Valdobbiadene…
Prosecco’s “Grand Cru”

Five centuries of history and 21 generations of a family and its love for the land and the wine that it yields.

“While the two labels have distinct identities, Bisol1542 and Jeio share a common passion for expressing the elegance of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG.” - Decanter

Bisol1542 has always authoritatively and innovatively interpreted the heroic hills of Valdobbiadene, a Unesco World Heritage Site, with wines capable of sartorially expressing the nuances of the soils and vintages.

In each bottle of Bisol Prosecco Superiore, the traditions of a family that has tended its vines in the Valdobbiadene area since 1542 are combined with the history of a landscape whose generosity is only matched by the difficulty of cultivating its steep, rocky hills. Each Bisol Prosecco Superiore has its own, unique identity which varies depending on the nature of the specific terroirs in which the grapes are grown. After all, the Glera grape, from which this type of wine is made, is particularly sensitive to variations in the soil and microclimate. (Bisol Official)

The Wines in Context

Territory: The Prosecco and Bisol1542 Universe

Valdobbiadene is the cradle where modern Prosecco was forged, the area universally recognised as the most suitable area for growing Glera grapes.

Its hills are the Prosecco Superiore DOCG hills, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2019 for the extraordinary uniqueness of their landscapes and the heroic viticulture.

The Prosecco area has 38,708 hectares and is divided between:

  • Superiore di Cartizze DOG 108 hectares

  • Prosecco Superiore DOG 10,600 hectares

  • Prosecco DOC 28,000 hectares

The Prosecco Superiore appellation, to which Bisol1542 belongs, originates in the historic area of vocation of the Glera grape and accounts for about 20% of the total Prosecco production

Bisol1542 is located in Valdobbiadene in the heart of the historic Prosecco Superiore DOCG production area.

The Prosecco Superiore DOC appellation is nestled between the Dolomites and Venice, in a mosaic of different terroirs that give rise to a kaleidoscope of sensory nuances.

2024 Bisol 1542 Superiore di Cartizze DOCG Dry

Straw yellow with a silver sheen. Complex on the nose, notes of flint, green apple and lemon zest. Refreshing and straightforward on the palate, an animated acidity, lingers well, a salty finish, a wonderful Prosecco Superiore.
93 Points – Falstaff
In the tradition of the families who have tended these vines in this enclave of the Valdobbiadene area since 1542, this wine expresses everything that is gorgeous about Cartizze. A very small sub-zone of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, Cartizze has ancient soils on steep slopes, which means that vineyard work is all undertaken by hand – heroic viticulture indeed. The result is this stupendous wine, pale lemon-green in hue, showing tiny bubbles and a mid-width cordon. Aromatics of orchard fruits are accented by light yeast and a chalky mineral note. Medium-dry and light-bodied, the round palate flavours are balanced by refreshing acidity and satin mousse texture. A lingering, serious wine suited to gastronomy, it will work very nicely with a saffron-infused northern Italian risotto.
Patricia Stefanowicz MW, panel chair at the Prosecco Master 2025
